The auction will close in __ days and __ hours

Buyer's Premium:

A mismatched pair of English provincial oak armchairs in traditional country designs.

The first armchair is of ladder-back form, featuring five graduated and shaped horizontal slats. It is constructed with out-swept arms set on turned supports. The seat is fitted with woven rush in a natural, light-coloured finish. The chair is raised on turned front legs terminating in pad feet, which are joined by a turned front stretcher and plain side and rear stretchers. The oak frame has a dark-stained finish.

The second armchair features a carved backrest, consisting of a wide, deeply relief-carved top rail with floral and foliate motifs above two similarly carved horizontal slats. The uprights are decorated with chip-carved detailing. The out-swept arms are positioned on turned supports above a woven rush seat. The base comprises turned front legs joined by a turned front stretcher and plain side and rear stretchers.

Both chairs exhibit traditional construction techniques typical of late 19th or early 20th-century provincial furniture.
