A vintage railway spike hammer, identified by an accompanying hand-written paper tag as a Railway Man’s Spike Hammer. The tool comprises a forged steel or iron head with a square-profile striking face and an opposing curved spike or pick end. The head is mounted onto a straight-grained wooden handle of circular cross-section. No visible manufacturer stamps or maker’s marks are present on the metal head or the wooden handle. The tool features a hand-written paper tag attached with twine which reads: RAILWAY. / RAILWAY MAN’S / SPIKE HAMMER 1960/70s. / £20.
