A varied grouping of British militaria comprising medals, numismatics, and ephemera. The lot includes a British Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, Queen Elizabeth II early reign issue, struck in silver. The obverse features the effigy of the Queen, with the reverse inscribed FOR EXEMPLARY SERVICE. The edge is impressed W.O. CL. 2 B. J. SEARLE W.R.A.C. for a Warrant Officer Class 2 in the Women’s Royal Army Corps. It is suspended from a crimson ribbon with white edges, featuring a ribbon bar for the Africa Star.
Also included is a silver WWI British War Medal, featuring the head of King George V, named on the edge to CHRISTOPHER W. S. WINDEATT. The collection further contains four bronze WWI Victory Medals featuring the winged figure of Victory. Identifiable naming on these includes 74 PTE. F. KLUMB. MIDD’X R. for the Middlesex Regiment and SPR. J. K. SHEPHERD. R.E. for a Sapper in the Royal Engineers.
The numismatic item is a 1960 British cupro-nickel crown minted for the British Exhibition in New York, featuring the St. George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci.
Accompanying the medals is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission memorial document for Ordnance Artificer 5th Class Frank Charles Frederick Bell, service number C/MX 68825, Royal Navy. He served aboard S.S. Britannia and died on 25 March 1941, aged 20. He is commemorated at the Chatham Naval Memorial.
