An antique American mantel clock manufactured by the Ansonia Clock Company. The clock is housed in an architectural-style case of black enamelled cast iron, featuring a rounded pediment and a stepped base. The case is decorated with incised and gilded floral and scroll motifs on both the upper and lower sections. The circular dial is flanked by two gilt-metal Corinthian columns, while the sides of the case are adorned with gilt-metal lion-mask handles with drop rings. The white dial features black Arabic numerals, ornate black hands, and two winding apertures, enclosed by a gilt-metal bezel with a gadrooned border. The mechanical, spring-driven, eight-day movement is visible through a circular aperture at the rear. The movement back plate is stamped with the manufacturer’s marks: ANSONIA CLOCK Co, NEW YORK, U.S.A, and PATENTED JUNE 18, 1882.
