Buyer's Premium:

A Victorian period architectural mantel clock, likely of French origin, dating to the late 19th century. The case is constructed from black slate with inset panels of mottled red and white marble, possibly Rouge marble. The front and sides are decorated with incised foliate and floral scrollwork, some containing remnants of gilt infill. The case features a stepped base and a pediment-style top. The circular dial is framed by a decorative gilt-metal engine-turned bezel and features a black chapter ring with gilt Roman numeral hour markers. The recessed centre of the dial is gilt-metal and contains two winding apertures. The clock is fitted with ornate pierced gilt metal hands. The movement is a mechanical, spring-driven brass eight-day movement with a strike mechanism on a coiled wire gong. A circular maker mark is stamped into the rear brass plate of the movement, but the details are not clearly legible. The numbers 5 2 are stamped on the upper portion of the rear movement plate.
