Buyer's Premium:

A collection of assorted ceramic Toby and character jugs, primarily of Staffordshire manufacture. The group includes a Royal Doulton Jolly Toby jug, depicting a full-length seated gentleman in 18th-century attire holding a foaming tankard of ale and a long-stemmed clay pipe. This piece features a circular lion and crown backstamp and the name Jolly Toby in script. Also included is a Beswick Barnaby Rudge character jug, model 1121, based on the Charles Dickens protagonist, featuring a handle modelled in the form of Grip the raven. This jug is marked with a green Beswick stamp and has both the name and model number moulded into the base. The collection further contains a Royal Doulton The Lawyer character jug, model D6504, dated 1958, featuring a quill pen handle and a full legal wig. Two smaller items from Shorter and Son are present: a Highwayman character jug wearing a black eye mask and a small full-length Yeoman of the Guard figure in traditional red and yellow uniform. Both Shorter and Son pieces bear green printed Staffordshire marks. Completing the group is a small seated Toby jug in a blue coat and black tricorn hat with an indistinct green printed mark to the base. All items feature polychrome hand-painted glazes.
