A vintage hand-knotted tribal rug, attributed to Turkish or Anatolian origin. The rug features a deep blue central rectangular field decorated with four vertically aligned geometric medallions. These medallions are executed in shades of terracotta, ochre, and cream, featuring internal cruciform and star-like motifs. The field is bordered by triangular corner spandrels containing repeating geometric patterns. The main border consists of several bands, the most prominent being a repeating stepped-triangle or running dog pattern in cream, tan, and light blue. The construction is a hand-knotted wool pile on a wool foundation, a method characteristic of village and tribal weaving. The reverse of the rug clearly displays the hand-knotted weave and reveals significantly more vibrant colouration than the face, indicating surface fading.
