A late 19th-century oak hall chair or armchair designed in the 17th-century wainscot style. The chair features a high back topped with a prominently carved cresting rail displaying scrollwork and a central fan-shell motif. The central back panel is decorated with deep relief carving in a classicising design, featuring a central urn from which symmetrical acanthus foliage and floral scrolls emanate. The construction includes solid panelled sides that transition into scrolled arm terminals. The chair has a solid oak plank seat and is supported by bobbin-turned front legs with block joints, while the rear legs are of a plain square-section. The legs are united by a full perimeter box stretcher, including a bobbin-turned front rail matching the design of the legs. The chair is made from solid oak with a dark-stained finish.
