This early 20th century oak specimen or filing chest is constructed in a utility style typical of office furniture from the circa 1920 to 1940 period, showing influences of the Arts and Crafts movement. The chest features a specialised drawer configuration consisting of six drawers in total: two tall vertical drawers to the outer flanks surrounding a central bank of four drawers arranged in two columns of two. The primary material is oak with characteristic grain, while the drawer linings are constructed from pine. The drawers feature hand-cut dovetail joinery. The unit is mounted on its original set of four cast-iron swivel casters. All drawers are fitted with integral carved oak bridge-style handles. The two drawers in the right-hand central column are fitted with brass-lined keyholes, though no keys are present. No maker marks, labels, or stamps were identified during inspection.
