Start price: £5

Buyer's Premium:

A pair of hand-carved wooden walking sticks of British country folk art origin. Each stick features a handle carved in the form of a bird’s head, possibly intended to represent a pheasant or woodcock. The handles are decorated with pyrography to simulate feather details and facial features, and each is inset with a pair of orange-coloured glass eyes. The first stick is mounted on a light-coloured wooden shaft with a natural, textured bark-on finish, possibly hazel. The second stick is mounted on a dark-stained and polished wooden shaft with natural nodules, characteristic of blackthorn or similar wood. Both sticks terminate in simple metal ferrules. Each stick is marked with the initials W.B.R. in pyrography at the junction between the handle and the shaft.
