Start price: £5

Buyer's Premium:

A large decorative textile panel of South Asian origin, worked in the traditional Zardozi style. The piece is composed of an off-white fabric ground, likely cotton or linen, extensively embroidered with gold-tone metallic threads using techniques including chain stitch and couching. The design is further embellished with small, circular gold-coloured sequins or spangles. The central field features a dense, symmetrical arrangement of traditional figurative and botanical motifs, including caparisoned elephants, camels with riders, human figures in traditional attire, stylised peacocks, and floral rosettes. Paisley or boteh motifs are also incorporated throughout the design. The composition is enclosed within a continuous repeating foliate and floral vine border accented with sequins. The textile is mounted under glass within a contemporary gilt-finished wooden frame featuring a beaded inner edge. A handwritten number 5032 is visible on the backing board, likely an inventory or auction reference. No maker marks or signatures are present.
