Lot 383: A Collection of 20th-Century British and West German Military Headgear including Royal Air Force and Army Berets

A collection of 20th-century military headgear comprising a West German peaked cap and several British wool berets. The West German Bundeswehr peaked cap is constructed from dark blue wool for an enlisted man or non-commissioned officer. The front features a metal cockade in the national colours of red, white, and black. The interior is finished with a tan synthetic lining under a clear plastic diamond-shaped moisture guard, printed with the maker A. Kempf K.G., Uniformmützenfabrik, Oedmiesbach. Marks include the size 56, a date stamp of 7 71 for July 1971, and the National Stock Number 8405-12-120/3623.

The collection includes British Army berets in dark navy blue wool. One is fitted with a brass King’s Crown cap badge for the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC), bearing the motto Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense. Another features a bi-metal King’s Crown cap badge for the Royal Army Pay Corps (RAPC), depicting a lion statant guardant upon a crown with the motto Fide et Fiducia.

Also included are Royal Air Force (RAF) berets in blue-grey wool. Both are fitted with brass King’s Crown RAF Other Ranks cap badges, consisting of the RAF monogram within a laurel wreath surmounted by a crown.
