This lot comprises a diverse collection of British militaria documents and records spanning the Victorian era to the mid-20th century. A focal point of the group is a framed and glazed Royal Air Force commission document for Leonard Walter Elsey, appointing him to the rank of Flying Officer effective 12th July 1939. The document features the header of George VI and bears the stamped signature of George R.I. at the upper left, with counter-signatures at the foot, including one attributed to Charles Portal. Accompanying this are four Royal Air Force Workshop and Laboratory Record notebooks (Forms 620 and 619) belonging to W.W. Ellis, service number 584854, while stationed at RAF Halton. These volumes contain extensive handwritten technical notes and multi-coloured hand-drawn diagrams relating to aircraft electrical systems, voltage regulators, and valves, with entries dated 1949 and 1950. Also included is an ONC H-5 fabric navigation chart (GSGS Misc 350), printed on fabric and marked for official use only, noted as a 1969 revision. Representing 19th-century service is a framed parchment discharge certificate for Private Matthew Neave of the 76th Regiment of Foot, dated 15th October 1840, detailing his eight years of service since enlistment in 1832. Further items include a 1906 edition of A Soldier’s Experience by Sergt-Major T. Gowing, containing a farewell address card for Sergeant W. McKilraith of the 5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and a contemporary newspaper cutting. The lot is completed by a small framed colour print of a mid-19th-century infantryman and a framed piece of silver-thread embroidery on a black ground, featuring a crown over the date 1859, the initials V.A.R., Roman numeral CCLXV, and the motto Fidus et Audax, likely representing the 265th Staffordshire Volunteer unit.
