This lot consists of three contemporary printed metal signs reproducing iconic British wartime posters from the First and Second World Wars. The first sign reproduces a First World War recruitment poster featuring an artillery crew in silhouette against a pale sky. The text includes a quotation attributed to Lord Kitchener: BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF. BE CERTAIN THAT YOUR SO-CALLED REASON IS NOT A SELFISH EXCUSE, with the instruction ENLIST TO-DAY at the base. The second sign reproduces a Second World War Ministry of Health public information poster regarding the evacuation of children. It features an illustration of a soldier and a photograph of a woman with a baby, titled Thank you SAYS THE SOLDIER. The text emphasizes that CARING FOR EVACUEES IS A NATIONAL SERVICE. The third sign reproduces a 1943 Second World War Ministry of Home Security Civil Defence poster aimed at the Fire Guard. It depicts a stylized incendiary bomb with a swastika and face, captioned Beat FIREBOMB FRITZ. The primary slogan reads BRITAIN SHALL NOT BURN. Each sign is manufactured from printed sheet metal, likely steel or aluminium, and features pre-drilled mounting holes at each corner.
