This pair of Royal Doulton Silicon ware candlesticks is crafted from matt, buff-coloured stoneware. Each piece features a classical columnar form with a vertical incised texture to the stem, a flared rim, and a wide, stepped circular base. The decoration is comprised of applied sprigged relief patterns in shades of light blue, dark blue, and white. Design motifs include a border of white triangles around the rim, rows of stylised leaf or teardrop shapes at the shoulder and base, and a central decorative band of scrolling florets on the stem. The underside of each base is impressed with the Royal Doulton circular mark featuring a lion standing upon a crown with England below, dating the manufacture to after 1901. Additional marks include the word SILICON in capital letters, the shape number 2160, and the impressed decorator initials ae.
