A pair of Carlton Ware novelty glazed earthenware teapots, modelled in the form of stylised World War I biplanes. One teapot is finished in a bright red glaze and titled Red Baron in black Gothic script on the fuselage, while the companion piece is finished in a cobalt blue glaze titled Blue Max. The decoration includes transfer-printed German iron cross markings to the wings and small aircraft silhouettes to the sides. The removable lids are formed as pilot figures wearing goggles and flying helmets. The engine cowling at the front serves as the spout, and the tail section forms the handle. The underside of each base features a black printed Carlton Ware maker mark, including Made in England and Trade Mark. An incised shape number 3540 is visible on the underside of the red teapot.
