A tube-lined earthenware bud vase of slender bottle form with a bulbous body and a flared rim, produced by the Moorcroft factory. The vase is decorated in the Pansy pattern, featuring large flower heads in vibrant shades of red, purple, and blue with green foliage. The decoration is set against a dark, mottled ground that transitions from deep brown to dark green tones. The underside of the base features several identifying marks, including the impressed factory stamps MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND. There is a hand-painted 4CR cipher in pink pigment and a circular paper label. This label reads POTTERS TO THE LATE QUEEN MARY and BY APPOINTMENT, and features a royal coat of arms with a facsimile W Moorcroft script signature. The presence of this label dates the manufacture of the piece to the period following the death of Queen Mary in 1953.
