The item features a rounded basin designed for wall mounting, equipped with a hinged internal flap or paddle mechanism intended to activate a water valve when depressed by an animal. The valve mechanism is not present. The exterior and interior surfaces retain remnants of an original green painted finish. These objects were standard industrial agricultural equipment in the United Kingdom during the late 19th to mid-20th centuries and are frequently salvaged for use as decorative garden features or planters.
