A Japanese Meiji period bronze jardiniere or hibachi produced by the Murasugi foundry. The vessel is of a large, bulbous, and lobed form, supported by a flared circular foot and finished with a flat, inward-sloping rim. The exterior is richly decorated in high relief with naturalistic scenes of birds perched on gnarled, blossoming branches. The upper portion of the body features finely incised swirling cloud motifs. The bronze has an aged chocolate-brown patina. The side of the body features an incised square seal mark reading Murasugi Chuzo (村杉鑄造), indicating it was cast by the Murasugi foundry.
