Buyer's Premium:

A large-scale horizontal Indian painting depicting a grand royal or ceremonial procession, executed in the traditional Rajasthani Mewar style associated with Udaipur. The composition features a densely populated scene with numerous attendants on foot in colourful traditional attire, accompanied by richly caparisoned elephants and camels carrying high-ranking figures under decorative howdah canopies. The background depicts a fortified white marble wall with domed pavilions and arched gateways, set against a landscape featuring a large lake, distant hilltop palaces, and green hills, reminiscent of Lake Pichola. The work is likely executed in gouache and gold-heightened pigments on a cloth or silk support, enclosed by an intricate floral and foliate border. While the subject matter and style are rooted in 18th and 19th-century Rajput traditions, the execution and scale suggest a late 20th-century decorative work.

Large-scale horizontal format.
