A Bank of England One Pound (£1) banknote from the Series A issue, featuring the signature of Chief Cashier Kenneth Oswald Peppiatt (tenure 1934–1949). The note is printed in green ink and displays a medallion depicting a seated Britannia at the upper left and a large numeral 1 within a geometric guilloche pattern at the right. The obverse carries the promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of One Pound, with the location London specified above the signature. The serial number W83A 436151 is printed twice in red ink. This green series was introduced in 1940 as an emergency wartime measure. The note is presented in a maroon mount with a gold-toned inner border, housed within a black and gold-finished frame.
