A 20th-century natural history study executed in watercolour with opaque gouache highlights on toned wove paper. The composition depicts a wren perched atop a cluster of agaric mushrooms, accompanied by a peacock butterfly and scattered autumn leaves and acorns. The artist has employed a realistic naturalist style with fine brushwork used to define the plumage and the gills of the fungi. The work is unsigned. It is presented in a dark grey mount within a moulded dark wood frame.
